Allegheny County – September 30, 2020 – State Senator Pam Iovino will host an “Investing in Women” webinar with the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities on Friday, October 2, from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM. The webinar, which is free and open to the public, is intended to provide women with important information about banking, credit, saving, and investing, while offering practical resources to improve their financial literacy and reduce economic gender disparities.
“The aim of this webinar is to identify investment habits, stereotypes, and obstacles for women in Pennsylvania and to reduce the gender gap in finances through education and awareness,” said Senator Pam Iovino (D – Allegheny & Washington). “I’m pleased to partner with the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities to offer this complimentary informational resource, which will help empower Pennsylvania women by improving understanding of the unique financial challenges women face when it comes to banking, budgeting, credit, and investments.”
The Institute for Women’s Policy Research calculates that in Pennsylvania, women earn 78 cents for every dollar a man earns; at the current rate of growth, Pennsylvania women will not receive equal pay until 2068. Nationally, the average single woman’s net worth is three times smaller than the average single man’s, according to a joint study from Merrill Lynch and Age Wave.
